ABOUT

Surgery, treated as a craft

Surgery is as close to art as the medical field can get — every incision, every suture, every knot done with grace, care and precision. — Dr. Abirami J. Raghunath

A trained musician and dancer outside the operating theatre, she brings that same discipline into her practice — trained across general, vascular, paediatric, oncologic and emergency surgery, with a specific commitment to treating every patient, including those from under-resourced backgrounds, with the same precision and care.

RESEARCH

Published, peer-reviewed, cited

Three PubMed-indexed papers within three years of residency — including original research that's changing how a common operation is done.

First author Springer Nature

Open inguinal hernioplasty under local, spinal and general anaesthesia: a comparative study

Hernia · 2025

A prospective study of 135 patients found local anaesthesia gave significantly lower post-operative pain, faster return to walking and eating, and shorter hospital stay — with no drop in patient satisfaction. The findings support day-care hernia repair, including for patients too high-risk for general anaesthesia.
